This handcrafted shamanic rattle originates from the Peruvian Amazon and is crafted by the Shipibo. The sound box is traditionally made from a calabash (tutuma fruit), and the handle is made of wood, often from the chonta tree. The rattle is decorated with sacred ornaments called quené , inspired by ayahuasca visions and representing the Shipibo's spiritual world.
The rattle is filled with achira seeds, which produce a clear, penetrating sound. The attached feather enhances its ceremonial character and symbolizes lightness and connection to the spiritual realms .
Shipibo rattles are traditionally used in shamanic healing ceremonies and rituals to open and cleanse sacred spaces, harmonize energies, and accompany the icaros – sacred chants
Each rattle is unique; patterns, colors , and feathers may vary slightly from the illustration.
This maraca is suitable for shamanic practices as well as a special percussion instrument with a wide range of sounds – from meditative and gentle to energetic and activating.
